Some of our themes feature a weather widget on the header, this is provided by Yahoo’s weather API. Yahoo has recently made some changes to the authentication of said API which made setting up the weather on the themes a bit more complex, lets see how it’s done.
Navigate to the weather settings tab
On themes that feature our own settings panel you do that by going to Appearance > CSSIgniter Settings > Weather Options
On the Customizer compatible themes you can go to Customize > Weather
Next we click the Yahoo! Developer Network URL. This will open a new window where you need to login with your Yahoo! account (if you don’t have one, you can easily create one for free).
Once logged in you will be presented with the Create Application form. Fill in the application’s title and click the Create App button.
The next screen you will see will look something like this
First copy the Client ID/Consumer Key in the Yahoo! Weather API key box in the Weather settings tab of your theme, then copy the Client Secret/Consumer Secret in the Yahoo! Weather API Secret box.
Once done, locate your area’s weather code aka WOEID by using the website suggested on the weather settings tab, fill in the weather code and save, that’s it!
TIP: The consumer key and consumer secret used above are not functional, so even if you have too much free time on your hands, do not try to use them 😉
