Announcing WooCommerce 3.7 support for our eCommerce themes
A couple of weeks ago WooCommerce 3.7 was released. This new version brings improved product blocks, better performance, increased security and some new features. It is considered a minor update and thus it is backwards compatible, you should be able to just update it and continue on with your life. Below we’ll take a brief look at the new features.
Product Blocks
Version 3.7 brings four new product blocks, new focal point picker on the Featured Product Block, a new Product Categories List Block, a new Featured Category Block and a new Products By Tag(s) Block. Along with the new blocks we have performance improvements on product lookup, and better block branding for easier discovery.
New minimum WordPress & PHP requirements
Starting with version 3.7 WooCommerce stores are now required to have minimum WordPress 4.9 installed and minimum PHP 5.6. Stores running a version of PHP less than 5.6 and WordPress 4.9 will not be able to update to WooCommerce 3.7 until they match the minimum requirements.
Miscellaneous
WooCommerce 3.7 also comes with some performance improvements, such as reduced query numbers to populate variations, tax classes have moved to a new dedicated tax class table and more. A new Additional Content sections was introduced to all mail templates, which replaces the old hardcoded “Thanks” sections. Finally 3.7 also introduces new Coupon Code Generation functionality to the Coupons admin pages.
