Herringbone – a WooCommerce theme for WordPress

Herringbone, our latest theme is now available. It’s a simple eCommerce theme based on the popular WooCommerce plugin. Let’s explore some of its key features.

Homepage

As you can see in our demo, the homepage is very simple. No sliders, no big announcement banners, just content. Setting up this page is really simple. Once you install the WooCommerce plugin, all you have to do is create a new page and assign the template “Frontpage”. Once you have some products in your catalog, just drag and drop some widgets in the designated sidebar called “Front Page Widget Area”. Have a look at the screenshot below.

As you can see we are using 2 WooCommerce widgets and 1 custom widget (newsletter) included in Herringbone. Main menu and sidebar menus are handled through the native WordPress menu management system found at Appearance > Menus. Easy enough?

Products

One of the most important aspects of selling products online is presentation. You might have the best products and prices but that’s not good enough. Physical interaction with a product is out of question. You do need some great photos and an appealing way of presenting these photos to your potential customers. In Herringbone when you hover over a product a second image will appear alongside product details. Let’s see how easy it is to setup your products this way.

First of all we have included two styles. You can preview the default homepage hover styles (2 images + product info) and the alternative homepage styles (1 image + product info). In order to select the hover style that you want just visit Appearance > CSSigniter Settings > e-Commerce Options. Here’s a screenshot of this set of options.

If all you need is one image just upload your photo as a “featured image”. If you need two images just upload more images in the “Product gallery” section. We’ll take it from there. If you have selected the hover style which includes 2 images + product info we will grab the “featured” image plus one image from the gallery. All of the images that you upload will be visible in the product page as seen in this example. Check the following screenshot where you can see the images uploaded for a product and the hover effect where we grab the 2nd image and display it while a user hovers over a product.

As you can see setting up Herringbone is a breeze. As with every other theme of ours, there aren’t any plugins involved (exceprt WooCoomerce in this case of course) in order to setup an ecommerce site identical to our demo. Ready to setup your next ecommerce website?
