Theme features

Post formats

Your theme comes with support of post formats. These allow you to change the behavior of each post, depending on the format you choose. Depending on the post format, an icon appears, post format icon on the right of each post, stating the type of the post, and clicking on that, takes you to a listing page of that post type.
To choose a post format, create a new (or edit an existing) post, and from the Format box, select the format you want. The supported formats are:

  • Standard: This is the standard format, just a plain post that can have a featured image.
  • Image: The image post format, is just like a simple post with a featured image. Of course the post format icon is different. You need to set a featured image for image posts.
  • Gallery: The gallery post format, is similar to the Image post format, but instead of a single image, a slider appears. You need to upload multiple images from within the post, in the same way that you would upload featured images. The behavior of the slider can be changed from CSSIgniter Settings – Display Options.
  • Video: The video post type allows you to embed videos from a variety of sources. On the Video Details box, enter the URL of a video from a supported website, for example:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z9WVZddH9w

You can also paste in the same box, the embed codes given by unsupported websites. YouTube is supported, but for the sake of example:

    <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4Z9WVZddH9w" height="315" width="560" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0"></iframe>
  • Audio: This post format, allows you to embed an audio player by simply pasting a URL to an MP3 file. You can either upload the audio file via the WordPress Media Gallery and use it, or type any URL to an audio file. Supported audio file formats are: .mp3, .mp4, .m4a, .ogg and .oga, but we recommend that you always use .mp3 files for maximum compatibility across browsers.
  • Quote: This post format allows you to post a quote, with proper attribution to the source. You enter the quote on the Quoted text box, the name of the person who said it on the Cite box, and optionally the URL of the webpage that you took the quote from in the Citation URL box.
  • Link: This post format is mostly about external sources. You enter any URL you want in the URL: input, and the post’s main header links to this URL instead of the post’s permalink. The permalink can still be accessed via a secondary link that is shown below the post’s header. You can optionally mark the URL with the nofollow attribute. This is useful, for example, when you link to a scammer’s site to warn people, and you don’t want to be penaltized by the search engines.

Widgets

This theme supports widgets. There is one widget area defined.

  • Right Sidebar, which appears on the right hand side of all posts and pages.

Theme features

Slider

Your theme comes with a beautiful slider to show off photos. This slider appears on each post that has two or more images assigned to it. To assign images to a post, all you need to do is to upload them while you are on the Add New / Edit Post screen. This can be done by clicking on the Add Media button, just below the post’s title, or by pressing the Upload Images button, on the Post Details box, under the post’s content.

You can individually control for each post, whether you want a slider to appear on top of the post or not (this applies to both the listing pages, and single pages as well). Again, this setting can be changed from the Post Details box, under the post’s content. If enabled, a slider will appear if you have two or more images assigned to the post. If you have just one image (doesn’t matter if it’s a featured image), the image will be displayed without the slider controls.
If the slider is disabled, an image will be shown only if a Featured Image has been set. Otherwise, no image will be displayed, independently of how many you have assigned to the post. This allows you to present you images in any way that you may want (e.g. using WordPress’ default gallery shortcode, or any plugin, etc).
In both cases, if you don’t have any images assigned to your post, no image will be displayed, naturally.

Widgets

This theme supports widgets. There is one widget area defined, Right Sidebar, which appears on the right hand side of the content. The theme also comes bundled with a few widgets developed by CSSIgniter. For information on using widgets, please see http://codex.wordpress.org/Widgets_SubPanel

Theme features

Blog

Normal WordPress functionality. Writing normal posts, will be displayed blog style as usual. In case you have created a front page, you will need to create also a blog page where your posts will be displayed (see Front Page template with Slider below).

Events

Events are the bread and butter of the music performer, from gigs or concerts, to guest appearances, to CD signings. The Events post type allows you to do just that, and show it off in an elegant way.

From your admin panel, go to Events New Event and start filling in the information. Use the title to note the town/country the event takes place, and optionally the nature of the event, (e.g. London, UK or Secret Concert, New York City, NY, USA). Use the main content to write the description, details and any information regarding the event. If the event is part of a tour, you may create a Tour taxonomy and file the event under that. Bellow the main content, there is the Event Details section, where you should add location and date details about the event. Enter the event’s date and time using the included date and time pickers. Type in the name of the venue the event takes place, e.g. Moe’s Bar and then locate the place on the map. When you find the place, click on the Set Venue Position button and then click on the exact point on the map to place a marker. Below the map, you can enter additional information about the venue, such as its address, phone number and website address. Don’t forget to assign a Featured Image, as it will be used on the future. Read on to find out.

Once you have created one or more events, it’s time to show them to the world.

Events templates

Create a new page from Pages Add New and name it Events or something similar. From the Page Attributes box assign the Coming Up Event template. This page will now show a big map, with all events having an Event Date equal or later than today’s date.
You can create another page to show both past and future events if you wish. Again, create a new page named accordingly (e.g. All Events) but this time assign the All Events template.

Future events are also shown on the front page. See section Front Page template with Slider for more information.

Don’t forget about Events just yet. Just because you did that gig, doesn’t mean you have to forget about it. Update the event with photos taken on location, write your experiences there, and give people who attended a chance to share their experience with you. Not only you will gain audience engagement, but comments are a great SEO boost.

Releases

What performing artist doesn’t want to be a recording artist? Even on the early humble beginnings, everyone starts releasing demos, rehearsal recordings, bootlegs, or when things get big, LPs, CDs, DVDs, etc. Releases allow you to add all these to your website. Go to Releases Release Types and add some types, such as CD, DVD, Bootleg, etc. Then go and add everything you have released as an artist. From Releases New Release start by adding the title of the release (such as your CD Signle’s title). Next, go to the Release Details box, and select when it was released. Of course you want a cover for that CD of yours, don’t you? Add a Featured Image then.
And now let’s get to the good part.
Into the main content box, start typing away. Go nuts. Provide a description, special thanks, track listings… Anything! And when you think your audience is ready to get awed by your performance, get your music on SoundCloud, either as a single track, or if more, as a Set. Then just copy the URL of your track/set, and anywhere on the main content use the [soundcloud] shortcode to embed it as such:

[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/your-url/etc[/soundcloud]

The player that appears will automatically expand to fit the content’s width, but if you want you can specify an exact width and/or height with the width and height parameters. E.g.:

[soundcloud width="200" height="150"]http://soundcloud.com/your-url/etc[/soundcloud]

Note that you can use only the parameters you want, and not necessarily both of them.

To show your releases to the masses, create a new page from Pages Add New and name it Releases or something similar. From the Page Attributes box assign the Releases template. The latest release is also shown on the front page. See section Front Page template with Slider for more information.

Videos

You’ve made a video clip? You have footage of your latest gig, or even the very first one? Upload it on one of the supported websites and show it off. From your admin screen, go to Videos New Video, give it a title, write a long story about it, and most importantly, on the Video File URL box paste the URL of the video.

To show your videos to your fans, create a new page from Pages Add New and name it Videos or something similar. From the Page Attributes box assign the Videos template. The latest video is also shown on the front page. See section Front Page template with Slider for more information.

Slider

This feature applies to the home page. Please see section Front Page template with Slider for more information.
Your theme comes with a beautiful slider on the front page. To assign images to it, you need to create Slider Items. Each slider item represents one image in your slider, and gives you the opportunity to have it linked wherever you want.
To create a new slider item, go to Slider Items New Slider Item, give it a title and set a Featured Image. That image will be displayed on the slider.
Now, if you want normal behavior, write a description or whatever you want to write on the main content, and just hit Publish. If you want your image to link somewhere else though, such as an event, a blog post, or even on an entirely external website, find the Slider Details box and paste the URL of the target page.

Widgets

This theme supports widgets. There are three widget areas defined. One, Blog – Right Sidebar, which appears on the right hand side of the content, on usual posts and pages. The other Right Sidebar, appears on the right of all other pages and post types. Last, there is an area on the footer, Footer that is displayed on every page and fits three widgets across.
The theme also comes bundled with a few widgets developed by CSSIgniter. For information on using widgets, please see http://codex.wordpress.org/Widgets_SubPanel

Shortcodes

The theme, like all CSSIgniter themes, is complemented by the CSSIgniter Shortcodes plugin which provides a variety of shortcodes for your use. See the instructions for usage information.

Furthermore, the theme provides an extra shortcode, [soundlcoud], in order to allow you to embed music from SoundCloud. You can use the shortcode as such:

[soundlcoud]http://soundcloud.com/your-url/etc[/soundcloud]

The player that appears will automatically expand to fit the content’s width, but if you want you can specify an exact width and/or height with the width and height parameters. E.g.:

[soundcloud width="200" height="150"]http://soundcloud.com/your-url/etc[/soundcloud]

Note that you can use only the parameters you want, and not necessarily both of them.

Now that your content is in place, you will need a menu. Go to Appearance > Menus, check the pages you want on your menu and add them, give your menu a name and save it. Finally you will need to set your menu as “Main” menu, this can be done either by checking the “Main menu” box in “Menu Settings” just below your menu items in Menu Structure, or by going to the “Manage Locations” tab and selecting the menu you just created.

(TIP, for more info on creating and managing menus, please read the WordPress Menu User Guide here)

6) Setting up your homepage

Lucullan comes with two homepage templates, the Front Page and the Widgetized Front Page. More about them below:

The Front Page template

This page will display your selected menu items on the slider (check the “Adding menu items” section above on how to add an item to the slider), below it will display four randomly selected menu items, the excerpt from a page of your choice, a testimonial and your business’s information. To configure the page go to CSSIgniter Settings > Homepage Options. From the Select the “View Full Menu” page drop down select your menu listing page, below in the Select the Featured page to display drop down, select the page you want to display next to the random menu items, additionally you can configure the homepage’s slider behavior in this panel. Next you need to go to CSSIgniter Settings > Business Options and fill in all the information relevant to your business, like location, address, opening hours etc, these will also appear on the homepage.

The Widgetized Front Page template.

This template displays the slider (check the “Adding menu items” section above on how to add an item to the slider) and provides you with two widgetized areas, the “Front Page Left” and “Front Page Right”, you can access them under Appearance > Widgets, here you can use any of our custom widgets or widgets of your choice to create a unique layout.

Recreating the demo’s homepage layout.

Since the “Front Page”, homepage template is generated automatically by filling in the various options discussed earlier in the CSSIgniter settings panel, let’s see how we can replicate the Widgetized Front Page template’s layout.

In the Front Page Left sidebar, we have  a CI Items widget displaying 4 menu items, below it we have the CI Schedule widget with our shop hours logged. In the Front Page Right sidebar we have a CI Items widget displaying the “Restaurant” page, below it we have a CI Items widget displaying one testimonial and finally we have the CI Location widget which displays the restaurant’s location on the map.

The theme’s footer features an main and a secondary area for you to enter your copyright info, privacy policy etc. To change the text you need to go to CSSIgniter settings > Site options (5th box down).

8) Adding a reservation phone number on the header

Under CSSIgniter settings > Business options  you can set your reservation phone number and a small prompt text, this will appear on every page of your site, on the opposite side of the logo.

You can use an anchor to make the phone number clickable so visitors on mobile devices can tap to call your establishment. Your code should look like this
<a href="tel:+342310350000">+34 2310 350000</a>

9) Widgets

The theme features eleven custom widgets to help you display your content. Widgets are accessible under Appearance > Widgets and below each one you can find a small description regarding their functionality.

IgniteApp

Theme installation

In order to install the theme, upload the theme folder into your WordPress installation themes folder (wp-content/themes) and from the WordPress admin go to Appearance – Themes. The theme should be available in your themes list. Click activate.

IgniteApp is highly targeted to the use it is intended for, therefore hides several administration menu items that are of no particular use to this theme, out of the box. For example, posts, links and widgets are hidden by default. You can have them reappear from Appearance CSSIgniter Settings Site Options Hide admin menus that are not used in this theme.

Sample Content

IgniteApp comes with sample content to help you set up your website as fast as possible, while working as a visual guideline to help you find your way around. The sample content is created by default when first activating the theme. In case you don’t want it, you can delete it from Appearance CSSIgniter Settings Site Options Delete sample content. Please be warned that if you make changes on top the sample content and then delete it, these changes will also be deleted.

IgniteApp aims to be a simple and elegant theme, helping you to focus on promoting your mobile application. For this reason, no sidebars are available, and no custom CSSIgniter Widgets are included with this theme. In fact, the whole Widgets menu is hidden by default.

Tabs and Content

IgniteApp utilizes tabs to present your content. Each tab corresponds to a page you have previously created. In order to assign and manage the tabs, we have created one custom menu position named Tabs Menu. Once you create a menu from Appearance Menus containing pages only, and have assigned it to the Tabs Menu position, your tabs will magically appear in the correct order.

Image Slider

The image slider utilizes a custom post type, which can be found on your administrator screen, under the name Slide. When creating a new slide, you only need to enter a title (mostly for your own convenience) and set an image as the Featured Image of the post. The image, if larger, will be resized and cropped automatically to fit the size of the slider, which depends on your application’s platform. For reference, the iPhone images should be 320×480 pixels, while the Android images should be 324×516 pixels.

Settings Panel

Our custom options panel can be found under Appearance CSSIgniter Settings. Let’s have a look at each tab’s options:

Site Options

Within this tab you can set your site’s logo text and slogan or even upload your image logo. You can also select your favorite color scheme and set the separator of the title tag. You can also upload the favicon for your site, and it will be automatically registered on each page. Furthermore, there is an option to hide/show the admin menu items that are hidden by the theme, and buttons to create and/or delete sample content.

Application Options

From this tab you set the properties of the mobile application that you are actually promoting. The Heading and Description fields appear just below the logo. Selecting the Platform will change various images used on the theme, to reflect your selection. For example, if you select Android as your platform, the mobile device will change from an iPhone to an Android device, the icon next to the Buy button will say “Available on the Android Market”, etc.
Don’t forget to set your application’s link so the potential buyers will be properly redirected and finally buy your application. Of course, you can set you application’s price and more.

Slider Options

From this tab you can control various aspect of the image slider, such as the transition effect, delay, etc, but more importantly, you can select whether you want the slider to appear on the left or on the right of the page, effectively changing the layout of the website.

Background Options

Within the background options tab you can override the template’s background settings and set yours as needed. If don’t want that, just keep this tab disabled by checking the checkbox “Disable custom background”.

Google options

I don’t think this tab needs an explanation. Just copy paste your Google Analytics code as given by their website, and you are all set for tracking visits.
